When I re-read those books as an adult, & w/o all the teen angst, I appreciate them immeasurably. I experienced that more recently with The Bell Jar. Couldn't finish it 3-4 years ago, then read it through and "got it" about 18 months ago. I guess the lesson is never give up on a book or author.Joanne Carnevalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14773494642346624996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23771210.post-63262923638655905172009-11-30T12:57:11.634-05:002009-11-30T12:57:11.634-05:00I really wanted to like Cat's Eye just like I ...I really wanted to like Cat's Eye just like I wanted to really like Margaret Atwoods' style but I think I might not be in the right place to get into it right now. I am reading toni Morrison right now and I used to "not get it" with her stuff and now I think it's incredible. Sometimes you have to grow in to certain writing.Hannah R. Fortunately, it is here for posterity and I'll have it as a reference.
Years ago, when Bravo was an artsy cable network instead of whatever it has since evolved into, you could watch foreign films and I saw an old - even then - British film called The Rocking Horse Winner. I'm now definitely interested in reading the story on which it was based. Also (pre-cable BTW) saw a PBS showing of The Yellow Wallpaper and have since read that story a couple times. Coincidentally, just bought another anthology that includes it.
I'm an admirer of Margaret Atwood and have read most of her novels and several short stories. Cat's Eye falls on my list of "all time greats" along with A Prayer For Owen Meany (Irving), Their Eyes Were Watching God (Hurston), and others. As you can see, it's a widely varying list.
Anyway, instead of blah, blah, blah from me, let me just say thanks for this interesting resource, and I'm glad you're back on the blogspot. Keep 'em coming!Joanne Carnevalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14773494642346624996noreply@blogger.com
