In the interest of full disclosure, this is written by someone who can't even make it onto the Honorable Mentions list in a writing contest and has nothing but rejections for her short stories and essays. Nevertheless, I've read both My Sister's Wedding and My Summer Vacation, and I've read plenty of traditionally published work. A lot of that mainstream stuff is mediocre at best, with no hope of ever reaching an Honorable Mentions list and certainly not a bronze medal. Point being, it's ironic and - dare I say it - unfair that authors such as Hannah, and probably Writerperson above, should have to "bang nails into the floor with their foreheads" in order to get the attention their work deserves. I'm not saying it should be easy but, holy crap enough already. There must be a few editors out there whose eyes - and minds - are open.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23771210.post-49434068788758072082007-06-05T12:47:00.000-04:002007-06-05T12:47:00.000-04:00Congratulations on the Bronze IPPY!! That's great ...Congratulations on the Bronze IPPY!! That's great news and I know how good it feels to get that kick of validation.
As usual, you channel my own feelings so accurately. It is terribly frustrating. I am now trying to find an agent with my latest MS, a mainstream novel. Bunch of rejections and one request for a full MS so far.
We should do some long-distance chanting at a simultaneous time or something.
I did have a nice thing happen last week: learned my screenplay, Long's Peak, made the quarterfinals of the Writers on the Storm contest. Very nice. Something to mention in queries.
Cheers!!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04621339612834832188noreply@blogger.com
